xFi Complete is an Xfinity add-on associated with eligible older Internet plans. It bundles a leased Xfinity Gateway with unlimited data where available. It is not a separate broadband connection or a guaranteed speed upgrade.
The important change: Xfinity says its newer Internet plans already include equipment and unlimited data at no extra cost. Before paying for xFi Complete, check which plan you have and what is already included.
Reviewed 25 October 2026 against Xfinity’s official information. This guide covers Xfinity in the United States; it is not a UK broadband offer. Prices and eligibility depend on your account.
What is xFi Complete, and how is it different from a Gateway?
| Term | What it means |
|---|---|
| Xfinity Gateway | The combined modem and WiFi router supplied for your connection. |
| xFi features | Home-network tools accessed through the Xfinity app with compatible equipment. |
| xFi Complete | An eligible legacy-plan bundle that includes Gateway rental and unlimited data. |
| Newer Xfinity Internet plans | Plans that already include equipment and unlimited data; compare their full terms with your existing package. |
These names are easy to confuse. Having an Xfinity Gateway does not, by itself, tell you whether you are paying for xFi Complete. Check the actual service and charge lines on your bill.
How much does xFi Complete cost?
The often-quoted price is $25 per month in addition to Internet service. An official Xfinity employee response in May 2026 quotes that amount. It is an example, not a current quote for every address or account.
Compare your total monthly bill, including discounts, equipment and data charges. A newer plan may already contain the benefits you need. Do not add $25 to a separately quoted Gateway rental when the bundle already includes that rental.
If a charge has appeared after being free, check whether a promotion ended. Xfinity has explained this situation for older packages. Ask for an account-specific explanation before assuming the charge is an error.
Do you need it for unlimited data?
Not necessarily. The current Xfinity data usage FAQ says newer plans include unlimited data and equipment. The 1.2 TB allowance applies only to certain older plans, with exceptions.
If your legacy plan has an allowance, compare the Unlimited Data option, xFi Complete where available, and a move to a newer plan. Check your existing package in the app, your online account or your bill before choosing. Unlimited data removes an applicable usage allowance; it does not increase your subscribed connection speed.
Will it improve speed or fix WiFi dead zones?
There is no automatic whole-home speed guarantee. The speed tier you buy, Gateway placement, building materials, connected devices and local interference all affect performance.
A Gateway combines modem and router functions, but capabilities vary by model. The range now includes equipment beyond the old dual-band models. Consult Xfinity’s Gateway comparison for the unit actually supplied to you. The app offers tools such as connected-device management, WiFi pausing and parental controls with compatible equipment.
Xfinity now calls its mesh devices WiFi Extenders; older material may call them xFi Pods. They can extend coverage, but Xfinity says they do not increase Internet speed. Not every home needs one, and adding too many can reduce performance. Do not assume a free extender automatically ships with every xFi Complete subscription; confirm your account’s eligibility and any assessment or redemption requirements.
Security and equipment upgrades: check the conditions
Xfinity’s current documentation calls Advanced Security CyberSecure. Eligible customers need to activate it through the Xfinity app. Treat it as an additional protection layer, rather than a promise that every online threat will be stopped or proof that you need xFi Complete.
The xFi Complete Tech Upgrade terms have specific eligibility rules, including subscription before 31 December 2024 and qualifying continuous service. They do not promise every current customer the newest Gateway automatically every three years. Check the terms and your account before relying on an upgrade benefit.
What to check before changing your plan
- Identify your package. Record the Internet plan name, speed, equipment and any xFi Complete line item.
- Check what you already receive. Confirm whether unlimited data and Gateway equipment are included.
- Compare the full cost. Ask about promotional expiry dates and the ongoing monthly total.
- Match the change to the problem. A weak WiFi signal and a data allowance are different issues.
- Confirm the consequences. Ask what happens to equipment, discounts and data allowance if you remove or change the add-on. Obtain the account-specific terms before accepting a change.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use my own modem with xFi Complete?
The bundle includes a leased Xfinity Gateway, and xFi network-management features require compatible Xfinity equipment. If you prefer your own modem, ask about compatible Internet plans and their data terms. Owning a modem does not automatically rule out unlimited data.
Is xFi Complete worth it?
It may be useful on an eligible legacy package if its included equipment and data benefits justify the total cost. It adds less value when those benefits are already included in your plan. Compare the bill and terms, rather than buying on the basis of the name.
Can I cancel it without changing my Internet service?
Ask Xfinity to confirm the options for your account. Removing the add-on can affect included equipment or data benefits, so check the resulting bill and any return requirements first.
