Taylor Embree is a former UCLA wide receiver whose coaching experience includes college football and several NFL organisations. His record is easiest to follow as a dated timeline: a coach’s old team biography can remain online long after the appointment it describes has ended.
Playing at UCLA
The New York Jets’ 2023 media guide records 137 receptions and 1,776 receiving yards across Embree’s UCLA career. It described his reception total as eighth in school history at that time. That historical ranking should not be assumed to remain unchanged as later players add to the record book.
Embree signed with the San Diego Chargers as a rookie free agent in 2012 and was released before the regular season, according to New England’s subsequent coaching announcement. Signing with an NFL club and appearing in an NFL regular-season game are different milestones; the former does not establish the latter.
A dated coaching timeline
- 2012: Graduate assistant at UNLV.
- 2013–14: Graduate assistant at UCLA.
- 2016: Defensive assistant with the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 2017–19: Offensive quality control coach with the San Francisco 49ers.
- 2020: Tight ends coach at Colorado.
- 2021–23: Running backs coach with the New York Jets.
- 2024: Appointed running backs coach by the New England Patriots.
The Patriots published that appointment on 19 February 2024 as part of the additions to Jerod Mayo’s staff. It is evidence of the appointment for that period. It should not be republished indefinitely as proof of Embree’s present employment.
What do the job titles mean?
The timeline shows movement between defensive work, offensive support and position coaching. A quality control title and a position-coach title describe different responsibilities within a staff. Neither automatically means the coach was the offensive coordinator or the person calling plays during games.
Position coaches work within a broader structure that includes the head coach, coordinators, other assistants and the players. A running back’s output cannot sensibly be attributed to one assistant alone. Blocking, personnel, injuries, play selection and the opposition all affect the result.
How should his coaching impact be assessed?
A useful assessment begins with a defined season and a specific question. For example, did a team’s rushing efficiency change, and which players and blockers were available? Look at the team’s official statistics alongside its staffing announcements. That is a stronger basis than calling a coach a future head coach without evidence.
Personal coaching principles require an attributable interview or statement. A biography listing appointments does not, by itself, establish what Embree thinks about leadership, motivation or player development.
Salary and current employment
The cited records do not establish Embree’s salary. Applying a broad estimate for NFL assistants to one individual would produce a guess, rather than a verified figure. For a current role, check the relevant organisation’s latest coaching directory and the date on any announcement.
