Stardew Valley Sam Gifts: Easy Options and Birthday Tips

Stardew Valley Sam gifts do not have to drain your farm’s budget. Pizza is an easy loved gift to buy locally, while Cactus Fruit becomes useful once you can visit the desert. If money is tight, Joja Cola is a cheaper liked option. The right choice depends on what you already own and where you are going that day.

Sam’s birthday is Summer 17. These are in-game dates, and this guide covers ordinary gifting in the unmodded game. Start with the options below rather than treating every item in a long gift list as equally convenient.

Stardew Valley Sam gifts: which should you choose?

Sam loves Pizza, Cactus Fruit, Maple Bar and Tigerseye. He also likes Joja Cola and ordinary chicken eggs. A liked gift still helps friendship, so you do not need to postpone every visit until you can afford a loved one. Check Sam’s complete preferences before substituting another item.

Joja ColaLikedA 75g purchase or an existing fishing catch.
Chicken eggLikedA spare from your existing coop.
PizzaLovedA reliable 600g purchase at the Saloon.
Cactus FruitLovedForage collected during an existing desert trip.

Affordable gifts before you unlock the desert

Joja Cola costs 75g at the Stardrop Saloon’s vending machine or JojaMart. It can also turn up while fishing with a rod. Despite being classified as trash, Sam likes it. Do not assume the same reaction from other villagers.

Crab pots cannot catch Joja Cola. If you are mixing up rod catches and pot results, our crab pot troubleshooting guide explains the separate routine.

A spare chicken egg is another option if you already keep hens. Check whether that egg is needed elsewhere before giving it away. Building a coop solely for one villager’s presents is a much bigger commitment; our coop upgrade budget sets out those costs.

For a straightforward loved gift, Pizza is sold daily at the Saloon for 600g. Buying two each week would cost 1,200g. That is convenient, but decide whether your current farm income supports it before making it your default.

Use Cactus Fruit when you already visit the desert

Cactus Fruit can be foraged in the Calico Desert or bought at the Oasis on Tuesdays for 150g. Foraging has no purchase price, but a special journey still uses travel money and time.

The bus ticket is 500g, including the return trip. Buying one Tuesday fruit after a journey made only for that purchase therefore costs 650g in total, more than a Saloon Pizza. Collecting fruit while completing other desert errands is the better budget comparison. Our Sandy and Oasis guide covers access and shopping-hour exceptions.

Store a few extras rather than assuming you will find fruit just before a birthday. This turns a useful desert find into a ready gift for a later town visit.

Keep Maple Bars and Tigerseye as alternatives

The Maple Bar recipe comes from The Queen of Sauce on Summer 14 in Year 2. It uses one Maple Syrup, one Sugar and one Wheat Flour. It is a practical option once the recipe and ingredients are available, rather than an early-game requirement.

Tigerseye comes from Magma or Omni Geodes. Use a spare if you have one; opening geodes specifically for a present adds uncertainty to a task that Pizza or an egg can solve more predictably.

Birthday gifts and the weekly limit

For ordinary non-spouse gifting, the limit is one gift per day and two per week, with the week starting Sunday. A birthday gift is still allowed after two weekly gifts. Birthday friendship effects are multiplied by eight; item quality and other modifiers can also affect the result. See the full friendship rules.

Set aside a loved gift for Summer 17, then check the Social tab before ordinary visits. Saving your chosen present in advance is more useful than buying something expensive at the last moment.

A simple routine to keep

  1. Check Sam’s gift boxes in the Social tab.
  2. Choose something available within your budget.
  3. Keep the birthday present separate from everyday supplies.
  4. Give one item, then check the Gift Log before trying an unfamiliar substitute.
