Stardew Valley mobile multiplayer is experimental. For a first attempt, choose a disposable test farm and a shared home Wi-Fi connection. That makes it easier to separate setup mistakes from connection problems without risking your main farm.
Checked on 27 October 2026. This guide uses the developer’s instructions and published save documentation; it does not claim that Link Buildo has tested every phone or network.
Check your edition first
The developer’s guide covers standard Android and iOS, excluding Apple Arcade’s Stardew Valley+. Mobile joins use an IP address, including when joining a PC host.
The Apple Arcade exception is deliberate. ConcernedApe explained on the official forum that the feature had briefly appeared there accidentally, and that Apple Arcade has separate multiplayer requirements. If you have Stardew Valley+, repeatedly entering the unlock sequence is not a fix.
How to unlock Stardew Valley mobile multiplayer
- Tap the title logo’s leaf groups: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right.
- Open and close ? to reveal Co-op.
- Choose Host or Join. Hosts need available cabins; guests enter the host’s IP.
Match game versions using the ? menu. On iOS, allow local-network permission and retry if the first connection fails. The developer favours a capable phone joining a PC over local Wi-Fi. Its illustrated instructions identify the leaf groups.
Protect your farm before experimenting
Our recommendation is to start a separate farm first. Do not test by moving or overwriting the only copy of a save you care about.
The Stardew Valley Wiki’s save documentation, linked from the game’s official site, identifies one folder per farm, commonly named for the farmer followed by numbers. On current Android versions, look under Android/data/com.chucklefish.stardewvalley/files/Saves; on iOS, use Files, then On My iPhone or iPad, then Stardew Valley. Access can depend on your device.
Copy the complete farm folder somewhere separate and leave the original untouched. The documentation says both the farm file and SaveGameInfo are needed. A newer-version save cannot be loaded by an older game version. If you cannot access and verify a copy, keep testing on the disposable farm.
The wiki also distinguishes mobile backup and emergency saves from the normal overnight save. The in-game Save Backup option is useful, but a new backup replaces the previous one and an overnight save removes that backup. It should not be mistaken for a separate archival copy stored safely elsewhere.
A practical connection checklist
| Record this | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Both editions and version numbers | Gives you a concrete starting point for support. |
| Last successful screen or action | Separates an unlock problem from a joining problem. |
| Exact error message | More useful than a report that it simply does not work. |
| One change and its result | Avoids losing track after several simultaneous adjustments. |
For troubleshooting, change one thing at a time. Avoid reinstalling the game or deleting saves as a first response. The developer warns that cellular hosting can be unreliable. For remote connections, follow its networking instructions; do not change router settings simply to investigate a local session.
Plan a short first session
Set a simple goal: connect, let each player move around, finish a day and check that the farm reloads. Only after that should you decide whether this arrangement is dependable enough for a longer play session. That is a suggested test sequence, not a guarantee against bugs.
