Stardew Valley Coop Upgrades: Big and Deluxe Costs Explained

Stardew Valley coop upgrades cost 10,000g for Big Coop and another 20,000g for Deluxe Coop, plus wood and stone. Starting with no building costs more: the complete route is 34,000g, 1,200 wood and 450 stone before animals, feed or other equipment.

The useful question is what you already own and what you want next. An incubator, more animal spaces and automatic feeding arrive at different stages. This guide covers the animal building, not multiplayer co-op, using the official-site-linked wiki checked on 27 October 2026.

Stardew Valley coop upgrades: costs by stage

The Coop reference lists the following separate construction and upgrade charges. Each row is one payment, not the total cost of reaching that tier from an empty farm.

Big Coop adds an incubator and unlocks ducks. Deluxe Coop adds automatic feeding and unlocks rabbits. Choose a stage for the feature you need rather than assuming the final tier is essential for every animal plan.

Work out what you still need

Adding the relevant rows gives a more useful shopping list:

  • No coop yet: all three stages require 34,000g, 1,200 wood and 450 stone.
  • Basic Coop already built: the two remaining upgrades require 30,000g, 900 wood and 350 stone.
  • Big Coop already built: only the final upgrade remains: 20,000g, 500 wood and 200 stone.

These are our sums of the listed building charges. They assume you supply the materials. Buying wood or stone adds a separate expense; animals, a silo and ongoing feed are also outside these totals.

For example, with a basic Coop and 600 wood stored, you need another 300 wood to cover both upgrades. You do not need to gather the full 1,200 again. Make the same subtraction for gold and stone before committing resources needed elsewhere.

How to order the upgrade from Robin

The Carpenter’s Shop documentation identifies Robin’s shop in the Mountain area as the place to construct and upgrade farm buildings. Bring the required gold and materials, choose the appropriate building option and select the existing coop for an upgrade.

Follow the sequence: basic Coop, Big Coop, then Deluxe Coop. Do not budget for a Deluxe upgrade as though it creates a finished building from nothing. Shop availability, existing work and festival days can affect your construction plans, so check the in-game calendar before choosing a deadline.

Our recommendation is to keep the next stage’s materials together in a clearly labelled chest. Count them before visiting Robin; a large total on paper is less useful if some wood has already been used for fences or machines.

Do you need Deluxe Coop for an incubator?

No. The Incubator reference places it in both Big and Deluxe Coops, to the left of the hay hopper. Big Coop is therefore enough to gain that feature; upgrading again is a separate decision.

An egg cannot finish hatching into a new resident while the building is at capacity. If incubation appears stuck, check the number of animals before assuming the upgrade failed. The documentation says hatching resumes when space becomes available and you enter the building.

Automatic feeding still needs a hay supply

Deluxe Coop distributes hay from your silos automatically. It does not create unlimited feed. The Silo documentation says each silo stores up to 240 hay, and that stored hay is available through animal-building hoppers regardless of the silo’s distance from them.

The animal-care guide explains feeding with outdoor grass or hay. A basic or Big Coop still needs hay placed on the feeding bench when required. Autofeeding is a convenience upgrade, not a replacement for checking supplies and caring for animals.

A short checklist before upgrading

  1. Identify your current tier and subtract materials already stored.
  2. Choose a concrete goal: more spaces, incubation, rabbits or reduced feeding work.
  3. Keep enough resources for feed and other farm priorities.
  4. Check the calendar and leave time for construction.

While gathering the next batch of materials, our crab-pot guide offers a separate daily collection routine. If you actually meant playing with friends, use our Switch 2 multiplayer guide; co-op mode is unrelated to upgrading an animal coop.
